About
Artist & Design Inspiration
My inspiration comes from two lifelong loves: art and nature. When I approach my designs, I consider color, texture and form. I am inspired by the flexibility and versatility of metal and precious metal clay, and their ability to mirror the organic and fluid qualities in nature. Color is another important component in terms of gradation of metals as well as the integration of colorful components such as beads and other fabricated items. With these ideas in mind, I create whimsical and one-of-a-kind pieces that raise the spirit and excite the senses.
I began my journey into the world of jewelry with a passion for beading and then expanded my work to include wirework, chain maille, metal smithing and precious metal clay. My collections are composed of sterling silver wire and plate, unique beads from around the world, semiprecious and natural stones and found objects. In the past year I have worked with precious metal clay, a clay product that is composed of .999 fine silver or sterling silver with a small amount of clay. Once I form my piece, I heat it in a kiln and the clay burns off, leaving either .999 fine silver or sterling silver. This process allows me to create pieces that can be molded like clay, demonstrate organic qualities and yet result in a beautiful sturdy piece of silver.
I have been making jewelry for the last fifteen years. I have participated in many local and home shows and worked with several nonprofit organizations to help raise funds for special causes through the sale of my jewelry. I was a member of Art Uptown, a gallery in Sarasota, FL for 12 years and have had many solo shows there. I have recently moved to Alexandria, Virginia and look forward to presenting my work to this community.
I am so excited by the many creative opportunities that this art form has opened up to me. I hope you enjoy my jewelry as much as I enjoy creating it.
